Tenkara Fly Fishing

Ankle deep in Little Prickly Pear Creek, Brad Hansen, Tenkara “Guru” at Crosscurrents Fly Shop in Helena sends a caddis stimulator gracefully onto pocket water under overhanging grass Tuesday Morning. Using the primitive method of Tenkara fishing, fisherman can access smaller streams usual to technical due to riparian overgrowth.

 Jennifer Harris demonstrates a bow cast technique with a Tenkara rod, wherein she loads tension in the rod while holding the fly, then releases it towards a targeted location on the creek.

Open Youth Rodeo

 Alexis McDonald charges a barrel during the Open Youth Rodeo at the Lewis and Clark Coutny Fairgrounds Saturday. McDonald won first in the intermediate, ages 11-14, barrel racing with a time of 17.23 seconds. The rodeo finishes up today with buckles, saddles and scholarships to be awarded.
